3D Printing Face shields for the #HealthCareHeroes

During this Covid-19 crisis, our education team member Mike Ford has been putting our 3D printers to good use in engineering a solution to a Personal Protective Equipment problem. He has been 3D printing face shields for local healthcare workers.

We wanted to share how this can be done and enable you to help the heroes too!

There are many 3D printing machines being used in schools, usually for demonstration purposes of this amazing technology. Now is your opportunity to utilise this amazing tool to support your local health care works with P.P.E. (Personal Protective Equipment).

You will need:

  1. 3D printer file from – download from https://lnkd.in/esr_mk6
  2. Slicing software. For Ultimaker machines use Cura…it’s free from https://ultimaker.com/software/ultimaker-cura
  3. Document Binding Covers – A4 ideally 240 micron
  4. Rubber Bands – 160mm by 3mm
  5. Freezer Bags – bag size 300mm x 521mm approximately including tie handles
  6. Printed Disclaimer- click here to download

Please note that we are in no way endorsing this shield as the only alternative, there are many great designs out there !! it’s just the one that works for us and the local supply chain, including : Hospitals, Care Workers, Supermarket Workers, Food Factories. Also please take note of the Disclaimer which is to be included inside each bag. Each assembled shield must be washed in hot bleachy water (take care!), dried and bagged, with the date of bagging on the outside of the bag.

All of the above works for us, but please feel free to make it work for you.
