An ongoing campaign by our very own engineer has provided West Norfolk’s healthcare workers with hundreds of face shields as part of efforts to maintain good levels of personal protective equipment (PPE) during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mike Ford has produced over 2000 face shields for West Norfolk’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital, local care homes, the Tapping House Hospice, the Borough Council and Norfolk and Norwich Hospital
Utilizing the 3D printers we usually use for demonstration in the classroom, Mike continues to put his engineering skills to good use through the pandemic.

One of the many challenges of Covid-19 has been home learning. We have been busy adapting classroom workshops and creating new activities so the exciting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) activities for the young and curious can have fun and keep learning.

‘I absolutely love it when science and STEM really come to life. My belief is it’s so important for children of all ages to see the relevance of these subjects and learn about real world situations and their place in it all. The Bloodhound Education activities, challenges, tasks and resources really do this. Running an online science club it was a privilege to work alongside Rob in developing a challenge for the club to complete. The Bloodhound Education team are fantastic and always available for input plus responding to tasks is a real positive and wonderful for young people to see how important their work is. A series of videos and tasks were also set for the wider school audience to have a go at completing. The vast amount of resources ensure there really is something for everyone no matter of age or interest. It was wonderful to see my students excitedly responding to tasks. All activities are also really well developed to make sure everyone is able to complete them whether at home, school or a club with easy to follow step by step guides and full explanation behind each task. I look forward to a time when we are able to visit the Bloodhound Education Centre’

We’re saddened to announce that one of our most longest serving and enthusiastic ambassadors John Wood, known to everyone as “Woody” has passed away after a short illness. Woody will be very much missed at our events and by all his friends in the land speed and motor racing world. Our deepest condolences to his family.
We couldn’t do what we do without the support of our education partners and sponsors. With new STEM roles expected to double in the next 10 years and a 2017 shortfall of 173,000 skilled STEM professionals, working with us means you’ll be helping support the development of new STEM talent.

Dawn Fitt has been involved in Bloodhound’s education programme since the project started back in 2008, setting it up, running it for seven years and then more recently becoming a trustee of the charity. We’re delighted that she’s received recognition for all her work in promoting STEM and engineering!
We caught up with Dawn to find out what inspired her to become an engineer and how she got involved in inspiring others. She also shares her thoughts on further opportunities to inspire students to take the apprenticeship route into engineering.

Graham Pay travelled further than most to deliver his first talks as a new Bloodhound Ambassador when he crossed the English Channel to visit schools in Guernsey and Jersey in September. However, having grown up on Guernsey, he had a particular interest in taking the story into local schools there following an invitation from the Channel Island Group of Professional Engineers (CIGPE).
We always need more Ambassadors to inspire young people! Read Graham’s story to find out what it’s like as a first-time Ambassador. Then learn more about what Ambassadors do and how to join us on our Ambassador Programme page.

The Bloodhound Education team attended the WorldSkills UK Live 2019 show late last year, immediately after Bloodhound LSR had achieved a top speed of 628mph in South Africa. The stand, complete with revamped modular car, was very busy with students who are fans of the project – including a young man who is now an apprentice with BAE Systems as a direct results of a Bloodhound Education team visit to his school five years ago.
Found out how we can inspire your students.

Former world land speed record holder Richard Noble visited the Porsche Centre in Tewkesbury recently to talk about the history of world land speed records and his involvement with the sport, supported by a team of Bloodhound Education Ambassadors.
If you’d like Richard or anyone from the Bloodhound Education team to give a presentation at your event, please get in touch.
If you would like to be part of a friendly, busy team and like the idea of inspiring children and students with unique, fun activities, we’d love to hear from you!
We currently have a vacancy for an Events Coordinator and Administrator (part-time) based at our Education Centre. And we’re always keen to hear from anyone who is interested in helping as a volunteer to become a Bloodhound Ambassador.
