An introduction to 3D printing
What is 3D printing?
3D printing uses a printer to create three-dimensional objects, for example a bike, a phone case, a face shield or a house. Objects are created by adding layers of material. Materials may be plastic, metal or even chocolate.
Here is a great way of practically learning about Additive Manufacturing (adding layers) and having a lot of fun too racing your car..
You will need:
Scissors
Glue Stick
A4 Foam or cardboard from a small delivery box
Car template
a balloon
a barbeque skewer
a straw
Instruction PowerPoint for step by step guide, videos and other free resource links.
Key Learning Outcomes:
You will:
be able to gain an understanding of the science and process of printing components using a 3D Printer
understand how components are developed using CAD or laser scanners and then 3D Printed
be able to create their own 3D object (out of foam) following the Additive Manufacture principle
