This whole lesson uses the ‘real – life’ science of the BLOODHOUND LSR to draw links between the particle model, fire triangle, combustion, incomplete combustion and rates of reaction to describe how we use scientific knowledge to increase the speed of our car, and explain how jet engines work.
Includes
a bespoke video and AFL quiz
a combustion demonstration (requires candle, lime water, cobalt chloride paper)
interactive gifs explaining rates of reaction
a plenary/homework crossword with answers.
KS3 National Curriculum Links:
The Particulate nature of matter: the properties of the different states of matter (solid, liquid and gas) in terms of the particle model, including gas pressure.
Combustion.
Exothermic and endothermic chemical reactions (qualitative).
