News update

Bloodhound Education was delighted by the announcement in December 2018 that entrepreneur Ian Warhurst had bought the business and assets of the Bloodhound Project. The Project is currently on hold while the new ownership company carries out restructuring, but in the meantime Bloodhound Education, which is a separate registered charity, is continuing to run and develop its comprehensive range of inspirational STEM education activities, including educational visits and workshops, and education-related events.

“Our Education activities were inspired by the amazing engineering that is at the core of the Bloodhound Project and we eagerly await a news update about its future,” said Kirsty Allpress, CEO of Bloodhound Education. “Whatever happens, we will continue to draw inspiration from the past 10 years of Bloodhound’s engineering achievements and also from other inspirational engineering and science projects as we expand our offerings. Our country needs more engineers and scientists, and if we can help to motivate young people to consider these subjects as worthwhile careers, that is fantastic.”

KS2 Desert Wheels Challenge – closes soon!

Entries for the Bloodhound Aluminium Desert Wheels design and technology competition, sponsored by the Aluminium Federation and Alupro, will close at the end of March. So don’t delay – enter now!

The competition challenges students in Years 3 to 6 to design wheels for a World Land Speed Record car from recycled aluminium. All students can take part and then each school can enter a poster and 3-minute video diary from the best team in each Year group (or one combined team). The top teams present to our judging panel and the best team overall will win a Rocket Car workshop day at their school, club or group.

This is a 5-hour project that can be run as an activity day or over several sessions in the classroom. We’ve designed a comprehensive teacher pack that you can download from our website which gives all the information and advice you will need.

Why not take part in the competition as part of your STEM week activities?
